SCTE® 2nd Technetix Webinar now available online: Stretching the network with Virtual Fibre and PON
The SCTE® (Society for Broadband Professionals) has again partnered with its Corporate Member Technetix to produce the second in a series of webinars aimed at the Broadband industry, now available to view online.
Taking place on Thursday June 24 at 3pm GMT, the webinar featured three presenters as well as a live demo and focused on virtual segmentation/transition to an all-optical network. Entitled “Stretching the network with Virtual Fibre and PON”, the webinar was presented by VP of Business Development Mark Basham in the UK and Jakup Ratkoceri and Timo Baanstra, product managers, live from the Technetix studio in the Netherlands.
The webinar will examine how the demand for higher speed is driving network investment to increase capacity and what that means for the wider industry. Cable network operators have a variety of capacity expansion options available including the evolution of DOCSIS, moving to a Distributed Access Architecture, pushing fibre deeper to reduce service group size or augmenting existing networks with PON.
This session from Technetix considered near term network flexibility options including Virtual Segmentation™ and FTTx augmentation enabling operators to progressively increase capacity and adding new service application opportunities including mobile backhaul.
Mark Basham commented, “We are constantly connected to social networks, business applications, entertainment and digital services. We expect to access data anytime and anywhere, with services being more symmetrical, it is no longer just about downloading content. Add M2M and IoT to the mix and networks must adapt to meet expectations, fibre and 5G combined with WiFi, offer the higher performance required to do this. Broadband services providers need a progressive path to evolve their existing infrastructure in conjunction with greenfield build. They also need a viable cost structure that closely ties investment with return. At Technetix our Virtual Fibre and FTTx solutions enable operators to stretch and complement existing networks to meet increased demand.”
Anthony Basham (no relation), President of the SCTE® added, “We are really looking forward to this next webinar with Technetix and building on what we created a few months ago. Mark and the team have some fantastic ideas and I think our members and the wider industry are in for a treat.”
Melissa Cogavin, Managing Editor at the SCTE® said, “Our monthly webinars have proven really popular with our members; we are delighted to be offering such excellent value for their membership and fulfilling our promise to educate and inform. I am also delighted to be working with our friends at Technetix again; this will be an excellent event.”
