Janhein van Brienen began his career in the broadcasting industry in the mid-1980s before moving to the UK in 1987, where he joined the audio visual department at University College London. In the late 1980s, he entered the cable industry through West Side Cable in Ealing, moving on to Cable London in 1990.
After a short involvement in the start-up of Comcast Teesside as Systems Engineer, Janhein returned to Cable London as Chief Engineer before becoming part of the Corporate Office of Telewest Broadband in 1998 where he worked on reverse path characterisation and the roll-out of digital services. In 2000, Janhein moved to the West Midlands and worked on an engineering solution for the digital rebuild of Telewest’s legacy Cabletime networks. In 2006, he joined the Technetix Group as a product manager.
In 2008, Janhein set himself up as an independent consultant to the industry, working on HFC and FttX projects for various network operators in Europe. In September 201,7 Janhein joined the T&I organisation of Liberty Global permanently as part of the new build strategy team. Janhein is a Fellow of the SCTE and was elected to its Executive Committee between 2005 and 2013, during which he also served as SCTE Vice President. He was re-elected as SCTE Vice President in 2018.
